Marian Harris. 1904 (Pennsylvania, USA) -1988 (New Jersey, USA).Born in Philadelphia Pa and a student at the academy, she was primarily active in New Jersey, where she lived most of her life. She also lived in Delaware for 5 years. Beautiful painting from the early years of her artistry with a wonderful, stamped, PAFA label on verso (see last photo), dated September 14, 1921.Signed and dated, lower right.Watercolor and/or gouache on paper.15-7/16″ X 12-5/8″ (size of mat).10-3/4″ X 7-7/8″ (mat opening or artwork sight)She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) from 1922-1926. She also studied at their summer school program in Chester Springs, PA from 1921-1924 and in 1932.So, if done in 1921 (as the date shows) she would have been only 17 years old when she painted this and it was likely done during the first year of her studies at the PAFA summer program, just before she would then attend the PAFA formal school in Philadelphia, PA.She also won scholarships to travel and study abroad and she additionally studied with Hugh Breckenridge in Gloucester, Msss. and Wayman Adams in Elizabethtown, NJ.Her paintings have sold at major auction houses in New York City as well as throughout the US.A wonderful find for a collector of her work.If any ebay viewers recognize this location, please let us know so we can update this listing.
