Early 1800’s French Miniature Hand Painted Antwerp Framer Children Family Trio

Miniature French Children Trio early 1800’s Painted on Wafer Antwerp Framer. 3″ x 2.75″ This is a very charming unsigned portrait of three children. I did not find a signature or names of subject. I believe it may be an amateur effort of family children. It is framed in a black oval frame with a gold-colored inner surround. On reverse it is marked with a label as follows: «Encadrements D’Art / Eug[ene] Rombouts Maes / 11 Place de la Comedie / Anvers». The only reference I can find on-line is that Rombouts Maes was an Antwerp Belgium art frame maker. In the absence of historical info, I have dated this item based on the costumes of the 3 children. Viewer insight is always appreciated if you can add to my research. The only reference I can find to the address 11 Place de la Comedie is in Montpellier France. That is in the south, well away from Antwerp. Other history remains a mystery to me. The image is loosely painted, hence my assumption this was an amateur, or possibly a tourist souvenir, piece. Obviously, a memento of someone’s loved ones. I guessed this is gouache — to be honest, I’m not sure if it is gouache, watercolor, or oils. Not what I know best. I just ruled out pastels and pencil. I opened up the back to inspect and research. Photos are included for your reference. The painting is on a rigid wafer. It was previously scotch taped to the matting interior — I have removed the tape for archival reasons. In the last photo, you will see residue of that tape, which I did not try to remove. Condition: Very good giftable condition. No mentionable issues on image, with no paint erosion or damage. Frame has a pinpoint loss of gesso finish in the lower right outer rim. No other frame issues. Reverse has paper erosion, but label and hanging ring are intact. Backing card is solid. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
