Authentic Pal Fried Oil on Canvas Painting of French Girl «Maxine» in its Original Ornate Wood Frame 30 inches high x 37 inches long x 3 inches Wide — In excellent condition — With Provenance. This painting has been in my family for over 60 years. As a young man my husband visited the famous Haussner Restaurant in Baltimore where many of Pal Frieds painting hung and where the artist had gained much deserved recognition and as a result, his painting became much sought after. On returning to his home in Chicago in late 1950s, my husband purchased this painting at an art gallery in Chicago. It has been lovingly cared for every since and is in excellent condition. Pal Fried (1893 – 1976) was born in Budapest and studied at the Hungarian Academic under Professor Hugo Pohl and in Paris under Claude Monet and Lucien Simone. Under Pohl’s influence he executed many portraits, nudes and Oriental scenes in pastels. He was also greatly influenced by French Impressionist School of Renoir and Degas. His works are listed in the Fine Arts Book. While traveling in Spain and Africa he gained mastery of light and movement. Returning to Paris he concentrated on Portraiture and became a recognized master. He became famous for his portraits of women in French society. In 1947 he emigrated to the USA and taught at the Academy of Arts in New York City. He painted many Hollywood celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and the Gabor sisters.
