András Gombár was born in Budapest in 1946 into an artistic family. Inspired by realism he later began to paint with oil on the panel. He developed an acute perception for tone values, shapes and colors capturing reflections within his subject matter.

His first exhibition was at the New School for Social Research and in 1949 the Smithsonian Institution launched a one man exhibition of his work. He’s travels through Italy, resulted in a series of eleven woodcuts, eight etchings and a number of oil paintings.
