Listed American Artist Anna E. Meltzer* Signed and Dated, on lower right, this Lovely, Impressionist Still Life in Nature scene. It is an Original Oil on Canvas from 1950. It depicts several roses, red, pink and yellow, against a yellow and blue, mottled background. They appear at an angle, the way they would grow, in nature, with green leaves further down the stem. The color palette is subtle but surprisingly still quite vivid. Artist’s name and date are also written on the back of the canvas.3 1/2″ Wide Antique, Gilt finish reverse moulding with Ornate Carving and a Linen liner is included in this listing. Canvas measures 20 X 34 and is in Very Good Antique condition.Outside measure of the frame is 26 1/2 X 30 1/2 and is in Very Good Antique condition w/ very minor fading of the liner.Please carefully examine all images for condition. Anna Meltzer graduated from the Cooper Union and also studied at the Art Students League. She was a founder of Audubon Artists, a fellow of the Royal Art Society of London and a member of the American Artists Professional League. Up to last year of her life (1973) Anna Meltzer had her own school of painting here at her studio home, with her husband, Samuel, a photographer. Here’s a large MURAL – PAINTING that I believe was made for some sort of Pacific Northwest GARLIC/TOMATO/PIZZA/MUSIC/SURFING FESTIVAL. I can’t determine which particular one, the surfing part of it throws me off. Painted on 3/8″ Plywood, it measures 91 3/4″ x 26 1/2″. Looks like Mozarella cheese at top left, basil leaves at top right, woman at center (in front of a pizza?) holding a garlic bulb and a tomato, man at left sitting playing a guitar, and someone surfing (on a slice of pizza?) to the right. A few scuffs, ding at bottom left corner, and some screw holes around the edges. Overall VERY GOOD CONDITION. Quite an item, this one’s been growing on me.
