His early work shows the influence of Johann Philipp Bach who may also have taught him. Acquired from an English collector, this miniature could very likely be an original work of well-known German artist of the turn of 19th century, Johann Heinrich Schroeder and could have been painted during his two-year-long stay in London in 1792-93.
