SIGNED 19TH CENTURY LARGE ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING ENGLISH PASTORAL LANDSCAPE

Large 19th century English pastoral river landscape oil painting on relined canvas by Alexander Panton (c.1831–1900). An atmospheric Victorian countryside composition depicting figure on horseback crossing a shallow river beside woodland cottages, with grazing cattle, distant church spire and windmill beneath a dramatic expansive sky. Executed in the Romantic landscape tradition with finely detailed brushwork, reflective water, rich earthy tones and strong depth throughout. Signed lower right “A. Panton” and presented in an ornate gilt frame. Canvas measures 75.5 by 119.5 cm with framed dimensions of 94.5 by 138.5 cm. The painting has been relined and displays craquelure, surface dirt and several scattered paint losses, while the frame shows age-related wear and tarnishing.
