RICHTER / Oil on Canvas / ORIGINAL TEXT-BASED PAINTING / 39 x 30″

RICHTER. Oil stick on canvas. 2012. Size: 39 x 30″ Width: 1-3/4″ RICHTER is a companion piece to Lorca (see listing) written on the same flight home from NYC. I’d gone to visit the Chelsea art scene and instead found everything closed except for an occasional upper floor gallery whose work had long past overstayed its welcome. Which is how RICHTER came about. The work was created using oil board stencils cut one at a time, then taped into words, then taped into sentences. A totally maniacal process that I don’t recommend the technique, but I do like how it turned out! I had Gertrude Stein’s cascading writing style in mind when I wrote this piece. I think she would have appreciated the absurdity of the story. Light smudge on the upper right of the painting. I’ll be listing a small range of text-based paintings over the coming months. Check out the studio image to get a sense of what’s on tap. If you have any questions or would like to see any additional paintings please let me know! Also, image is warped a bit due to iPhone and a lousy initial angle. I’ll reshoot and update as soon as it’s nice outside. I like to use natural light for accurate color – even in black and white.
