Vtg 1967 Melvin Orville Miller Orig Oil On Board #730 Baltimore City College High School Miller juxtaposed the modern with the historical in this piece. The tower in the background is the Baltimore City College High School, the third oldest high school in America opened in 1839 an apparently still active. The main part of the painting, the building in front … we don’t know what it is exactly (maybe you do and can tell us) but it looks to be a modern 1950s or 1960s building, perhaps next to a park in the foreground. The painting would look better in a different frame. This one has glass although most oil paintings don’t. The frame sort of overwhelms the painting and the painting is busy enough. Great find. Adapted from online sources: Baltimore artist, Melvin O. Miller (1937-2007) was a member of the «6 Realists of Baltimore», 1961 – 1963. Favorite subjects include Baltimore and European cityscapes, maritime subjects, industrial icons like old mills, street cars and trains, and occasional still lifes. HIs has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 50 USD to 1,600 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.
