Original Watercolor by Beebe Mack. Parrots.

Beebe Mack is an amazing watercolor artist. Her pictures differ from most in their precision and detail, a feature that watercolors are not known for. We took one of our pieces to the best framer in town and mentioned that it was a watercolor, and he said that someone had misrepresented it to us, as it was a photograph. He called to apologize after he began working on it. This one, with its bright and accurate colors and details down to each vane of the feathers, is done with a background that she called ‘negative’ – in that like a photograph’s negative, what is dark in the finished photo will be light on the negative. She explained that it is more difficult because one cannot make a mistake. The result is the bright realistic birds against an impressionist background, and a remarkable artistic skill. We bought as many of Beebe’s work as we could afford, and Neta carried some of her work in her antiques store. We lost touch with her after she moved from Florida, so if you have contact information, let me know as we owe her some money from the last sales.
