This original 36×24″ acrylic on canvas by Cherokee artist Bill Rabbit appears to depict the «First Fire» legend. The central white raven likely represents the bird before its feathers were scorched black in the traditional story. The textured background features subtle animal and bird figures within the blue tones, suggesting the other creatures who attempted to retrieve the fire. While this interpretation aligns with Cherokee lore, it is the seller’s personal perspective on the piece. Signed by the artist.
Each painting has one Southwest Pueblo Pot in a landscape with turquoise sky. Bill Rabbit’s work is still being carried out by his wife and daughter in their Studio in Pryor, Ok. and his daughter Traci is a recognized Cherokee Indian Artist also.
Rabbit was born in Casper, Wyoming. He attended school in Casper, where he was the only Cherokee student in the school system. His talent showed early on in his kindergarten class. Rabbit has no formal training in art apart from a two-week class in grade school.
