this beautiful «gem» of an antique oil painting depicts a small section of the Maine coastline done by a talented artist who signed the painting in the lower right corner as «H. Hunt» – the painting shows a typical rocky Maine coastline with a relatively calm ocean surface beyond the rocks – however, the sky suggests that this is the «calm before the storm» where the painting shows the sky filled with grayish clouds amid some white clouds which is probably the prelude to a summer storm – in the distance, we see a range of small mountains which reach right down to the edge of the ocean – the painting measures 10″ x 12″ sight size, & was done on 19th century Academy Board as seen on the reverse of the painting – this «gem» of a painting is surrounded by an incredible original gesso on board frame which is typical Victorian decor & which sets off the beauty of the painting in magnificent style – the frame measures 18″ x 15″ & is in very good antique condition –
this is a delightful c.1890’s antique oil on canvas painting depicting a small country cape type house with its attached barn located in probably in either Vermont or New Hampshire – it is a wonderful fall foliage rural scene with bright & bold orange & yellow colors on the trees around the house & barn & in the field next to the house – on the left side of the painting, we see the harvested hay set up in vertical bundles ready to be loaded on the farmer’s wagon – we also see the ripe pumpkins lying on the field ready to be picked up & placed in the barn – in the upper left of the painting, we see a small mountain in the distance so typical of Vermont & New Hampshire with mist rising along the mountain side suggesting a crisp cool fall morning – below the mountain is another small red-painted farmhouse somewhat difficult to see note the nice detail work with the shadows by the talented artist in the foreground of the painting – this shadowing juxtaposes masterfully with the pale blue sky in the upper portion of the painting – the painting measures 10″ x 14″ sight size, & is in very good antique condition – it is well-enhanced by its lemon-gold original wooden frame which measures 12″ x 16″, & is in good antique condition with a few scratches & minor chips –
For sale is a very beautiful late 19th century early 20th century French impressionist watercolor painting of the famed Joan of Arc statue on Rue Jeanne d'Arc in the Place des Pyramides in Paris France. The sculpture was done by the French sculptor Emmanuel Frémiet. (1824 – 1910) During the golden age of French sculpture in 1874. This watercolor is signed in the lower left corner somewhat illegibly, but we seem to be able to decipher the name Rochefoucald Rochefoucalt)? We feel fairly confident on the last name but we cannot determine the first name. Possibly the letters «G de». The last name certainly being a French surname. We have seen several French artists with the same last name, but we cannot attribute this to any particular artist as we are unsure. Please see the close-up, detailed pictures of the signature for your own consideration. Overall, the watercolor is just a wonderful. It depicts local Parisians going about their day as they stroll through the Place des Pyramides plaza while the gold gilt statue of Joan Of Arc lols large above them. Just a wonderful impressionist watercolor. Condition: Some age appropriate toning and light spotting in areas. Edge toning. The image of the watercolor haven't been transposed to what is most likely the original paper backer board beneath the painting as you can tell in one of our detailed pictures. Matted but not framed. Matting and backer materials should be replaced with archival acid free materials for long-term preservation Measurements: Matted – 18 3/8″ x 14 1/2″ Sight Size – 12 1/8″ x 9 1/8″ Watercolor – 12 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING WILL NOT INCLUDE MATTING IN THE SALE
