A C.1900 antique oil on artist board of a rural farm scene signed C. Fletch. The painting depicts a barn on the banks of a river with stone bridge with horse and cart. A waterfall is in the foreground of the meandering river, the painting is signed lower right «C. Fletch». A nicely done primitive landscape, a quaint serene country scene. Joseph Ratcliffe Skelton (1865-1927) was a well regarded English painter working primarily in watercolor and producing occasional oils. He was active as an artist from the late 1880s, working in London, mainly as a watercolor artist but also as an illustrator, contributing to «The Bystander», «The Graphic», «The Illustrated London News», and «The Sketch», as well as producing illustrations for a large number of books.
