Large Collage Mixed Signed André Bucher Sculptor Swiss Abstract Dorny Marfaing
When he met volcanologist Haroun Tazieff on a television set in 1975 and learned that the melting point of bronze and lava were the same, the idea came to him to combine the two materials, to the point of obsessing him day and night. In 1976, he mounted an expedition, prepared special tools for working with molten lava, transported equipment to the slopes of the erupting Etna, borrowed a fireproof suit from the Geneva airport firefighters and bivouacked in the snow in minus twenty degrees for three weeks at 3,200 meters above sea level. He then shaped the liquid stone. “The matter of matter” as he called it. He set up his workshop in the open air and, in a universe where words lose their meaning, he translated into his works the fundamental unity of the world which he then integrated into.
