He graduated from the Academy of Art in Rotterdam, after which he studied painting with Hermanus Jozef Wijngaard. The themes that Brouwer chooses are mainly Dutch landscapes done in oil on linen. His technique is a combination of realism and impressionism, which immediately brings the viewer into the Dutch Countryside and then allows him or her to actually feel and smell the moist, fresh Holland air and see the soft pastel colours of nature.
