John Alfred Coultrup was born in Kansas on April 11, 1888. He painted hundreds of landscapes in oil, primarily as a passion pursuit, and passed away in Long Beach in 1982 at age 93. Coultrup was a prolific California regional artist known for sweeping Western mountain and seascape landscapes � very much in the tradition of earlier painters like Bierstadt.
