Arkadi Soroka (1921 Vinnytsia – 2010 Vinnytsia) was active in the Ukrainian regional centre Vinnitsa. From 1937 to 1941 he studied at the Odessa Art College. Creator: Arkadi Soroka. Creation Year: 1960s.
Listed American (New York & Connecticut) Landscape Artist Charles C. Benham Signed, on lower right, this Lovely, Impressionistic Riverscape/Landscape with Sailboat scene. It is an Original Watercolor on paper, c. 1890’s. A lonely sailboat meanders up a narrowed part of a river (Hudson?), past a large and expansive home, up on the bluff. The marshy vegetation, along the bank, are full of rich, earthy tones, while the greenery by the house is more ‘lawn-like’. The sky is skillfully mottled with cloud-cover. Benham exhibited from New York to Boston, but when he signed this piece, he added, «N.Y.», so we believe this is an ‘olde’ New York scene, that could be the Hudson or any number or creeks and waterways around the islands of N.Y. Vasili Sergeevich Karkots was born in Banovka in the region of Kostanay, in 1926 in a working class family. From 1947 to 1952 he studied at the Tashkent Art School. In 1952-54 he lived and worked in Chimbay (Uzbekistan) and taught art at the Chimbay Pedagogical School.
