This orientalist Middle East pastoral landscape is very well executed employing a sophisticated knowledge of light, color and perspective. The painting in sight is measuring about 25 ½” (65 cm) by 17 ½” (45 cm), and the frame is measuring 34 ½” (88 cm) by 26 ½” (68 cm). It is signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner. This painting would be a sound investment and a great addition to your collection. Paul B. Pascal (1832-1903)Paul Pascal was born in Toulouse, France and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked solely in gouache and is best known for his Orientalist scenes. In 1893, he emigrated to the United States and settled in Washington, D.C. Most known for Street scene watercolor painting, child figure sculpture, ceramics. This painting is a French street scene, it is watercolor on paper and depicts a street/ alley way with figures walking by centuries old buildings, a child stops to watch a street artist at his craft, with architecture of church in background. The painting is signed and dated lower right «Guignier 1953». It is housed in a finished corner gilt wood frame with linen wrapped mat over off-white mat with protective glass front.
