English or Continental. Naive water color of a gent with a Crimean medal and other decorations c. 1850. Sitter is seated on a mahogany chair; there is a suggestion of a table covered with red velvet drapery and elaborate embroidery (as well as a ceremonial sword or scabbard?). Sitter has black curly hair parted in centre, brown eyes and wears an elegant frock coat with gold epaulets “soaring” at the shoulders, and clutches gloves. Set in a papier-mâché frame with gold liners. Feel free to ask questions.
