Beyond Andromeda, 1955 oil by Hugo Gnam. Fantastic Mystical Outer Space

Hugo Gnam was a good friend who lived in my town. Loved his modernist home which he built. I befriended all the artists of my town and eventually put on and curated an exhibition called Made in Yorktown 40 Artists of Quality. Hugo was born in 1899 in Zurich Switzerland. He attended Zurich University and then NYU Art School in 1920. By 1937 he was painting fantastic Jungle Scene paintings and he and his wife ran the popular Jungle Mart shop on 53 St and 2nd Ave. 2 big influences in his painting were Boeklin and Holdler. «Even though I have sold over 290 paintings at galleries and shows, , I have always felt that painting is an intense personal matter. It is an artist’s delight to amuse himself, express himself, and let his mind goo on a fling. I like to think of my paintings as rhapsodies of the mind. You paint, you are in a fever.. The artist closes his eyes. daydreams a little, springs to his brushes, and suddenly there’s the sunset. just the way he dreamed about it. That’s why for me, painting is bliss.» Everything I sell is guaranteed to be original and by the hand of the artist. My shipping is worry free and I urge you to trust in my business practices.
