The artwork here, «Ballerina in Blue Original», is a wonderful depiction of a portrait of a ballerina, that is saturated with acute detail, and vibrant color throughout, making it one of the nicest paintings by Soyer we have ever made available.
The idea with taking it to Soyer would be that I’d think he painted it and I’d want to get it back to him. A good part of Soyer’s body of work was depicting the world of performance artists, specifically dancers or ballerinas in NYC.
He began his teaching career in 1930 at the John Reed Club in New York. Despite his criticism of abstraction, Soyer remained at the center of New York’s artistic and literary scenes. [1] Reserved and introspective, the artist turned to his surroundings for subject matter.
