Jean-Frédéric Schweckler (1888–1962) was born in Geneva, Switzerland, to a French family of Alsatian descent. In 1917, he married Ida Vurpillot, and their daughter, Jeanette, was born in 1919 (she passed away in 2017).

A nice American school oil painting on canvas portraying a ships mast sticking out of rough waters with a sailor clinging on, signed L.H. Yarwood and dated 1879. It is well done and the fast brushstrokes emphasize the movement of the tumultuous ocean! It is in very good condition for age with typical toning, light surface wear, craquelure, etc. It is housed in a vintage wood frame that is in good condition with just normal wear and some small scattered losses to finish.
