Antique Italian Watercolor By Giuseppe Aureli (1858-1929) Dated 1884-Rome Lovers – Art is 14” x 20” and frame is 23” x 29” mint condition. Aureli studied from 1881 at the Academia di San Luca in Rome with Pietro Gabrini and Cesare Maccari. In 1883 he already exhibited in Naples and Rome, then he participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, such as the universal exhibitions of Paris and Chicago in 1899 and 1893. Since 1894 he also began to participate in the exhibitions of the Association of Roman Watercolourists. Aureli first gained a reputation as a history painter and portrait painter of the Italian royal family, but his work later focused on harem scenes and exotic beauties. He was largely influenced by the Roman masters of oriental painting Filippo Bartolini, Enrico Tarenghi, Nazzareno Cipriani and the illustrator Ettore Ximenes, who worked in nearby workshops.
