this beautiful «gem» of an antique oil painting depicts a small section of the Maine coastline done by a talented artist who signed the painting in the lower right corner as «H. Hunt» – the painting shows a typical rocky Maine coastline with a relatively calm ocean surface beyond the rocks – however, the sky suggests that this is the «calm before the storm» where the painting shows the sky filled with grayish clouds amid some white clouds which is probably the prelude to a summer storm – in the distance, we see a range of small mountains which reach right down to the edge of the ocean – the painting measures 10″ x 12″ sight size, & was done on 19th century Academy Board as seen on the reverse of the painting – this «gem» of a painting is surrounded by an incredible original gesso on board frame which is typical Victorian decor & which sets off the beauty of the painting in magnificent style – the frame measures 18″ x 15″ & is in very good antique condition –
