However, he soon built up a flourishing practice as a drawing master and exhibited in York and London from 1865 to 1879. A folio of his work was presented to the Prince of Wales in 1900. For the last 25 years of his life he lived at Acomb, Yorkshire, and he gave up teaching in 1908.
