An antique 19th Century slightly naive style oil on canvas painting depicting a double portrait study depicting what appears to be a woman teaching a child to read, probably a mother and daughter. The oil painting has a small amount of paint losses.
A beautiful early 19th century regency English painting of a family of 4 – consisting of a mother, daughter and two boys decked out in the height of fashion for the time period. Painting is done in the manner of Sir John Watson Gordon (British, 1788-1864) From the estate of renowned art collector Gregory Warren Nelson of Reno, Nevada. In overall good condition with minor craquelure throughout, surface discoloration and darkening. Piece has been relined. Minor touchup throughout piece as well. Overall size is 39” x 33”
