Emily Selinger (née Emily Harris McGary) — American (born during the mid-19th century and she died during the lat 1920’s. An accomplished painter of floral still lifes, Selinger studied at the Cooper Institute School of Design in New York, taught widely, and influenced art education in the United States. She exhibited at the Academy of Design (New York), Boston Art Club, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and was twice awarded silver medals at Mechanics’ Asso ciation exhibitions. Known in her day as “Emily Selinger, the Rose Painter,” her work was widely collected and remains sought after by collectors, interior designers, and institutions. Fine Large Antique Victorian Period Oil On Canvas Painting Chrysanthemums This is an exceptional oil painting on canvas of mums painting in the impressionist style of classic English Sunday painters. Very similar to the style of Paul de Longpre had he painted in oil. Quite textural, pastel and lovely. Measurements are 54 1/2” wide and 19” tall. The creamy with gilt Victorian period frame is original to the painting – I am sure it was custom made for it.
