Hand-painted portrait miniatures in the Marie Antoinette style, Victorian revival, 19th century. Each portrait is painted on a thin substrate and when held to light, faint translucency is visible, as seen in the photos.
This is an original antique portrait of a beautiful young Victorian woman. Late 19th century. Oil on canvas. A hole next to her shoulder and at bottom right there is a scrape. Painting also has age cracks and a little muted in a few spots also shown in photos.
The portrait appears to date to the late 19th century and depicts a bearded gentleman in dark formal attire against a shadowed background.
The composition features the subject in three-quarter view, her direct gaze and subtle smile conveying a sense of quiet dignity. On unstretched canvas. Flakes of paint loss and creasing to the edges of the canvas.
THE INTERIOR HAS FRENCH SEAMS AND IS FULLY BONED THROUGHOUT WITH NO MARKINGS ON THE PETERSHAM.
